The Candle Method is one of the vision exercises that are known to provide great results on improving eyesight naturally. It is specifically beneficial for those suffering from hyperopia (farsightedness).
Hyperopia, commonly known as farsightedness, is an eye disorder preventing us to see clearly at close distance. According to the 5th edition of the Statistics on Vision Impairment prepared by R. Leonard at the Arlene R. Gordon Research Institute “farsightedness affects 12 million Americans age 40 and older (10%)”.
Farsighted people usually find it difficult to read or do other close-up work, such as treading a needle, without correction glasses or contact lenses. They often have headaches or feel eyestrain and eye fatigue when performing work at close range. Various factors contribute to the development of hyperopia – genetic predisposition, environmental factors, eye structure and other health conditions. Regardless of the exact reason for farsightedness, the following exercise can help you reduce its symptoms and significantly improve your eyesight naturally .
All you need for The Candle exercise is a candle, a table and a chair. Here is what you need to do:
1. If you are wearing correction glasses or contact lenses, remove them.
2. Place the candle on the table and light it. Make sure its flame will be at the same level as your eyes once you sit next to the table.
3. Sit comfortably on a chair next to the table. Relax your body but keep your spine and neck straight.
4. Your eyes should be about 4 feet away from the candle light.
5. Close your eyes for a minute and relax.
6. Open your eyes and focus them on the candle light. Stare at it for one minute without blinking. You may feel the urge to move your eyes or close them, but try to resist. It is normal if your eyes water as well, so don’t panic.
7. After a minute, close your eyes again. Visualize the flame in your mind- imagine it is between your eyebrows. Hold on to its image as long as you can, then open your eyes and repeat step 6.
8. Repeat the exercise 3 or 4 times.
9. Finish with the Palming exercise.
Once you start performing The Candle method on a regular basis, you can start to gradually increase its duration from one to four minutes. Remember to keep your eyes, face and body relaxed throughout the exercise. If you feel it is becoming hard to keep your eyes focused on the light, stop and make a short break. You should notice an improvement of your vision quite soon after you start doing this exercise.
